HATE is a multi-headed monster that can manifest itself in myriad ways, from bombings of marathons to shooting rampages at synagogues to the demolition of federal office buildings. But whether the motive is political, racial or religious in nature, barring overriding mental disorders, the act is always, at heart, one of TERROR, defined in the U.S. criminal code as an "unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives." In an effort to help criminal justice, behavioral health, public policy and other experts, as well as students and the public at large better understand the roots, modus operandi and strategies for preventing the purveyors of violent hate in America, the Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law is pleased to present When HATE Hits Home, its 19th Annual Symposium. Presented in partnership with: The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, the FBI Pittsburgh Division, the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh, Classrooms Without Borders, and Duquesne University's Office of Diversity and Inclusion and McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts.
